Olivier Giroud, Arsenal’s second summer signing, is adamant that even though the Gunners are not fancied for the Premier League title this season, the team have the potential to upset the odds and clinch the title.

Giroud is no stranger to being in teams which haven not been given a chance during pre-season, but have proven everybody wrong with stunning achievements over the course of the campaign.

The French striker drew a parallel between his ex-club Montpellier’s chances of clinching the Ligue 1 title last season to Arsenal’s chances of winning the Premier League this season, insisting that if he and his team-mates were able to defy the odds with the French side, the same can be done at the Emirates Stadium.

“With Montpellier, it wasn’t written that we were going to be champions, so that’s what made it more beautiful”, said the 25-year-old to Arsenal’s official site.

“With Arsenal, we might not be favourites, like the Manchester clubs, to be champions. We’re outsiders, but I’m convinced that we can do something big", he added.

The French striker also added that his previous employers were able to claim the title as the players had belief in their abilities and had the right approach to their game. He then added that he is looking for a similar mentality among his team-mates at the Emirates.

“There was a good mentality in the team, good quality, with some good players, and I look forward to finding that quality and spirit with Arsenal”, said the French forward.

Giroud was instrumental in helping Montpellier clinch the Ligue 1 title as he scored 21 goals and assisted a further nine. The Gunners will be hoping that he can reproduce similar form for the North London club to lead them to glory.
