Anderlecht defender Cheikhou Kouyate has boosted his stock with English Premier League clubs after his involvement in the 2012 Olympic football tournament with Senegal, his agent has claimed.

Kouyate is rated as an extremely promising defensive talent in Belgium and was linked with Manchester City at points last season, while another English club, Newcastle United, were ready to use the Olympics to check up on the 22-year-old.

And eyes have been cast in Kouyate’s direction, according to his representative Tedik Bekir.

"I have received many phone calls since the Olympics. Almost all from the Premier League, but also from Russian and Turkish teams", said Bekir.

"For now, nothing is really concrete. But that could change later on in the transfer window."

There could be an opportunity for interested clubs to snap up Kouyate this summer, as the player’s club Anderlecht are looking at a cash shortfall.

The Belgian giants had assumed that Matias Suarez would join CSKA Moscow – a fee of €14.3M was agreed for the Argentine – but his transfer was cancelled after the failure of a medical in the Russian capital.

Nevertheless, Kouyate has stated that he wants to learn his trade in Brussels before jumping to a bigger club.
