England captain Steven Gerrard will not be following Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s advice to quit Liverpool for a "major international club".

The Paris Saint-Germain striker had advised Gerrard to leave Anfield and head abroad, before Sweden and England met in a friendly last night.

The 32-year-old, who recently played his 600th game for Liverpool and is strictly a one-club-man, thanked Ibrahimovic for his advice, but insisted he would not be following it.

"I am a big fan of Zlatan as a player, but I will not follow his advice", Gerrard was quoted as saying by Swedish daily Expressen.

"In my view, Liverpool are also one of the biggest clubs in the world.

"A team that has won the European Cup five times.

"I am happy, but I thank him for his opinion."

The Reds have fallen well down the pecking order in the Premier League in recent years and, set to turn 33 before the end of the season, time is not on Gerrard’s side.

In last night’s friendly, Sweden beat England 4-2, with Ibrahimovic scoring all four of his country’s goals.
