Vitesse striker Wilfried Bony has equalled the club record of former hitman Nikos Machlas by scoring 36 goals in all competitions this season.

Bony hit the back of the net in Vitesse’s 3-3 Eredivisie draw against Roda JC, a result which sees the Arnhem-based side sit second in the league standings.

The Ivorian star scored Vitesse’s third of the afternoon, a goal which at the time put the side 3-0 up and on course for victory.

Roda JC hit back though, scoring three times to grab a dramatic draw.

Machlas found the back of the net 36 times in all competitions for Vitesse in the 1997/98 campaign.

With another four games left to play in the Eredivisie this season, it seems certain that Bony will break the Greek striker’s record.

Bony looks unlikely to be at Vitesse next season however, having been linked with a number of clubs, including European champions Chelsea.
