Roberto Carlos' expected journey into football management has been gathering pace, with former club Anzhi Makhachkala keen to offer him a leg-up.

Carlos has been serving as sporting director with the Russian club, since hanging up his boots for them in January last year.

Earlier this week, Turkish side Sivasspor confirmed their interest in the former Brazil left-back as a potential manager.

Anzhi's current boss Guus Hiddink reportedly intends to leave the club at the end of the season – following their Russian Cup final against CSKA Moscow – and Carlos seems favourite to take over.

Hiddink's agent Kees van Nyuvenheyzen told Russian outlet Izvestia: "Hiddink has done a great job at the club, lifted the team to a higher level, but lately feels a bit tired.

"But now I can only say that he will announce his future after the final of the Russian Cup against CSKA Moscow."

Former Anzhi player Alexei Igonin has given his seal of approval for Carlos as the next coach, saying: "I am always impressed by players, who after completing their playing careers, become involved in coaching.

"Who else but a former football player who best understands the sport? Roberto Carlos really wants to try himself in the role of head coach.

"This is a very serious and difficult work that is not for everyone, but I believe that the Brazilian will succeed in this post.

"Of course, his coaching experience is still quite less, but with time he will be able to achieve all that he wishes."
