Galatasaray playmaker Wesley Sneijder has gone on record to reveal the reason why he left Inter Milan, saying that the club’s players and fans "hated" him.

Sneijder arrived at Inter after two seasons with La Liga heavyweights Real Madrid for a fee believed to be €15m. During his stay at the San Siro, Sneijder made a total 116 appearances, clocking up 22 goals and 36 assists along the way.

But Sneijder’s last months with the Serie A giants were not as smooth-sailing as both parties would prefer. Indeed, the Dutch attacking midfielder was frozen out of the Inter squad because of his vehement refusal to sign a new deal that would have had his wages cut.

Sneijder then moved to Turkish side Galatasaray in January, but the attitude did not seem to go well with the club’s hierarchy and fans, something that Sneijder has now confirmed, telling Dutch daily De Telegraaf, "The Internazionale players and fans hated me.

"So I don’t mind if the club finished somewhere in the middle of the table, ninth in Serie A and the coach was forced to resign. They didn’t even clinch European football", the Dutchman quipped.

Sneijder followed his statement with advice for the Inter top brass, who said, "Maybe now the policymakers at the club should think [about their situation], perhaps even scratch the back of their ears, because what is happening to them now is not Inter-worthy."

Sneijder then went back to how we was badly treated at the club, hinting that he could have done something for the club if he was not ungraciously shown the exit.

"They tried to destroy me", Sneijder said, who also added, "If I had not had my personality, then I would not have played football."
