Borussia Dortmund have confirmed the capture of Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan on a four-year deal, whilst announcing that transfer activities worth nearly €50m had brought their summer purchases to a close.

Dortmund officials have been locked in intense negotiations over the last few weeks over Mkhitaryan, who was the Ukrainian league’s top scorer last season, with other clubs also interested.

Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Anzhi Makhachkala were also in the hunt, the latter with a €35m bid, but Dortmund have won out.

The club released an "ad-hoc" statement via their official site, revealing that a basic agreement had been reached with further details to be sorted out.

"Borussia Dortmund and FC Shakhtar Donetsk have agreed to the transfer of the player Henrikh Mkhitaryan", the statement read.

"Borussia Dortmund and the player have a basic agreement on the economic terms for a contract with a term until 30th June, 2017. Details are yet to be matched.

"With Mkhitaryan’s now expected commitment as well as the commitment of the players who have already completed their transfers, Borussia Dortmund have essentially completed their transfer activities.

"As part of the settlement of these transfers, Borussia Dortmund have largely exhausted the available investment budget of €50m."
