Napoli are determined to sign Internacional striker Leandro Damiao as a replacement for Edinson Cavani and are ready to increase their recently rejected offer to do so.

Rafael Benitez’s men had seen a bid of €18m knocked back by the Brazilian giants, who are looking for a larger sum to cash in on Damiao.

Now, with Cavani close to joining Paris Saint-Germain this summer, Napoli are preparing to come back with an offer of between €20m and €21m for Damiao.

Last season’s Serie A runners-up will also throw bonuses into the pot, which could see the final amount pocketed by Internacional rise even higher.

Napoli may not have it all their own way in their Damiao hunt though.

The striker is admired by Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas, who tried to take him to White Hart Lane in January and has been linked with rekindling his interest this summer. Indeed, Internacional’s president had claimed the London giants were in pole position for the player.

While another English side, Southampton, have held talks with Damiao’s representatives in the hopes of snapping up the Brazilian.
