Italian giants Roma have beaten Tottenham Hotspur to the signature of Croatian defensive starlet Tin Jedvaj, according to Sky Italia.

Spurs have been pushing to hoover up the 17-year-old from Dinamo Zagreb along with Alen Halilovic, with talks progressing to such an extent that the Croatian outfit’s president declared the deal all but done.

But Roma have swooped to pick up defender Jedvaj, whisking him to the Italian capital yesterday for talks and a medical.

All that remains is for the paper work to be completed and the 17-year-old will become a Roma player.

The Italian giants pick up a starlet who has been tipped for the very top and had his potential clearly signposted within Croatia. And they will pay €5m for the privilege.

Jevaj joins a side that finished sixth in Serie A last season, but lost the Coppa Italia final to arch-rivals Lazio.
