AS Roma defender Marquinhos is a short step away from completing a move to Paris Saint-Germain, who have beaten off competition from Barcelona, according to Italian daily Corriere dello Sport.

The Catalan club had seen an offer snubbed earlier in the year, whilst their interest in the 19-year-old had amounted to a reported €30m bid in the summer.

However, PSG trumped the lot with a €35m offer, and it is expected the Brazilian’s arrival in Paris will be announced later today.

If all goes well, Marquinhos will be joining a club that has all-but-confirmed a €64m deal for Edinson Cavani, to give new manager Laurent Blanc’s reign a significant shot in the arm.

Marquinhos has spent just one season with Roma so far, making 26 appearances in Serie A, while he has previously played for Corinthians in his native country.

He is understood to be high on Blanc’s list of transfer targets, with interest in him going almost as far back as that which was showered on Cavani.

Marquinhos is yet to be capped at senior level by Brazil, but has turned out 14 times for the Under-17 side, most notably in the World Cup in 2011.
