PSV Eindhoven are yet to see the last of the Ola Toivonen transfer merry-go-round, as the striker has now reopened the saga around his potential move to Norwich City earlier in the summer.

Toivonen appeared to have rejected the chance to join Norwich – with both clubs nearing an agreement – citing the desire for a bigger club.

The situation continues to be complicated due to the lack of a contract extension, and Toivonen had long been told to find a new club or risk ending up with the reserves.

And less than a month after his decision to snub the Canaries, Toivonen has taken somewhat of a back step.

"I did not definitively say that Norwich were no longer an option", Toivonen was quoted by Voetbal International as saying. "I want to take my time. I do not want to hurry."

At such a stage, even PSV coach Philip Cocu is resigning himself to the fact that Toivonen may well have to be urged into accepting a new contract.

The Sweden international’s current tenure with PSV runs out next summer, and Cocu is partially hopeful that Toivonen can find himself a way out.

Cocu added: "If, at the end of the transfer window, Toivonen is still here, we will go back to the table [to discuss a new contract].

"The market is still open for a month, so we will wait and see what happens."
