Gareth Bale's transfer saga could be close to an end after Real Madrid reached an agreement with Tottenham Hotspur for the sale in a £93m deal according to Sky Italia.

It is understood that Fabio Coentrao will be added on to the deal at a value of £15m, with Tottenham having played hardball all throughout the summer.

Coentrao is already known to be on the exit list at Real Madrid, with manager Carlo Ancelotti revealing the same on Saturday.

It is the Bale transfer that is sure to set tongues wagging in both England and Spain, even if the price has not been fully agreed upon yet.

That, in itself, is part of the negotiations that both clubs must endure, but it seems that an agreement in principle is already in place.

Bale's move will signal the end of a saga that began well before the 2012/13 season began as most of Europe's top clubs battled for a say.

Tottenham had long claimed that the Welshman was not for sale, even Bale himself had claimed a love for the Spanish game.

In the end, Real Madrid were always the biggest contenders, and the willingness to discuss a €100m-plus transfer was always going to help them.

The Spanish giants had slapped a 20th August deadline on the Bale transfer, and it seems their words have come true.
