AC Milan have left the field of battle in the war to sign Paris Saint-Germain centre-back Mamadou Sakho, meaning it is advantage Liverpool and Monaco in the hunt for the France international.

Sakho wants to quit the Parc des Princes, having worried about warming the bench for Laurent Blanc's men in a World Cup year.

Blanc has admitted he understands the player's situation and will work hard to find a solution.

That is thought to mean a deal of sorts, with Sakho extending his contract, due to expire in 2014, and PSG agreeing to loan him out for the season as a result.

Milan had been firm fans of the Frenchman, but now the club's CEO Adriano Galliani has pulled them out of the race.

"In this transfer window, we have done everything we wanted to do and now we have a very competitive team with good players", he explained via Corriere dello Sport.

"On Sakho, there is nothing", he added.

The news will be hungrily digested by Liverpool and Monaco, who are the other two sides thought to present Sakho with his most likely future home.
