Atletico Madrid have confirmed that winger Arda Turan has penned a new deal with the club, which will see him at the Vicente Calderon until 2017.

The Turkey international joined Los Rojiblancos in 2011 from Galatasaray and has since become a vital member of last season's Copa del Rey winners.

The 26-year-old was linked with a move to his former employers during the summer transfer window, with Premier League giants Liverpool and Arsenal also interested in acquiring the player according to his agent.

But Turan is delighted after extending his contract with Atletico and has thanked everyone associated with the club.

“I feel very happy to have extended my contract with Atletico. After two years in an Atletico shirt I feel like part of the club's family”, he told Atletico’s official site.

“If I am happy that the club want to continue with me it is thanks to my colleagues and we are all very close. I want to thank not only my colleagues, but also the managers and all those who work at the club and form this big family.”

Turan, who scored in the capital club’s Champions League 3-1 win over Zenit St. Petersburg last night, has made 93 appearances for Atletico in all competitions.

He has also been capped 67 times by Turkey and has 14 international goals to his name.
