Schalke sporting director Horst Heldt has denied that the club have received a bid from Chelsea for Max Meyer, but admits he has heard the Blues are tracking the 18-year-old midfielder.

Meyer is making waves at Schalke and his progress has not gone unnoticed. Liverpool were one of the first English clubs to put themselves front and centre for the German, but Chelsea have not been far behind, with a desire to take Meyer to Stamford Bridge.

Schalke meanwhile are fighting the raging transfer fires and are aiming to tie Meyer to a new contract.

And they know those talks are happening under intense interest from outside the club, even if there has not been any official bid yet.

Heldt, who managed to keep Klaas-Jan Huntelaar out of the clutches of Premier League sides a year ago, told Kicker: "There is no official offer from Chelsea.

"But I have heard of the interest."

Meyer himself is pleased to be in such high demand, but is focused on Schalke at present and has made encouraging noises over a new contract.

"I am happy that I am so popular. But I feel very comfortable here", he said.

"I hope that an agreement is achieved. I think it will happen this year."
