Iker Casillas has dialled down the rhetoric about his disappointments at Real Madrid, claiming he is happy to fight for a starting berth.

Casillas is the second-choice for coach Carlo Ancelotti in La Liga, with Diego Lopez manning the goal. Casillas is, however, a regular in the Champions League and cup games.

The frustrations had forced Casillas to declare his winter-move intentions if the situation did not improve though he has since claimed he was misquoted.

With Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal linked with approaches, Casillas will face decision time in January, but the Spaniard told AS: "I am fighting for a starting position in Madrid.

"I have to fight to be in every game and then it is up to the decision of the coach. But I have to train and fight for the position.

"Today I'm happy. I want to continue playing but if not, I will say that I am sad. All I want is to help the club achieve the highest titles."

Barcelona are looking for a goalkeeper for next season as well, though sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta yesterday claimed there was no intention to sign Casillas.

"Real Madrid surely know what Casillas means for them. No, I did not have the temptation to make a move for Casillas", Zubizarreta said.
