Jose Mourinho has hit back at Romelu Lukaku after the striker's apparent gripe about a lack of contact with the Chelsea manager.

Lukaku is enjoying life on loan at Everton but is keen to prove himself back into Mourinho's good books.

Lukaku was deemed surplus to requirements at Chelsea, given their summer spending, but the Belgian reportedly told journalists Mourinho had not contacted him at all over two months.

However, Mourinho was in no mood to offer the olive branch, telling a press conference: "Romelu likes to speak. He's a young boy. He likes to speak.

"But the only thing he didn't say is why he went to Everton on loan. That's the only thing he never said.

"My last contact with him was to tell him exactly that. Why he never says anything about why he isn't here [at Chelsea]?

"Because he likes to speak, it's something that he should have said – the reason why he's not with Chelsea and he is at Everton."

Lukaku has so far scored seven goals in 10 games for Everton, where he is on loan until the summer of 2014, building on a hugely encouraging loan spell at West Brom last term.
