Newcastle United and PSV Eindhoven will be monitoring Borussia Monchengladbach keenly over the next few weeks, with confirmation that Luuk de Jong is "not happy" at the club.

PSV are understood to have made a formal enquiry for De Jong, who joined Gladbach from Eredivisie side FC Twente in 2012.

He has found game time hard to come by at Gladbach – all 12 of his appearances have come as a substitute – prompting interest from other clubs.

His old club Twente are also in the mix alongside Newcastle and PSV, and his agent Louis Laros told the Algemeen Dagblad: "It seems clear to me that Luuk is not happy.

"But that does not mean he's leaving. We will look at what is best for Luuk and for Gladbach."

Laros is expected to meet with Gladbach's leadership next week over his client's contract situation, with his current deal running out in 2017.

De Jong will be hoping for a spot in Louis van Gaal's World Cup squad with Holland, and regular game time will be key.

However, he previously ruled out a return to clubs in Holland, claiming it would be a step back for him.
