Kostas Mitroglou has dealt his many suitors a blow by penning a new contract at current club Olympiacos.

The Greek international has hugely impressed this season and built up a formidable list of admirers, including Arsenal, Liverpool, Inter and Borussia Dortmund.

Mitroglou also had a release clause in his contract, which had worried Olympiacos, even as the Greek champions vowed to keep hold of him until at least the end of the season, warding off a January switch.

However, they may now do even better than that after persuading Mitroglou to pen a one-year extension to his current contract, which is believed to remove the clause, and runs until 2017.

The striker was quick to express his delight at staying put, saying via a statement: "I am very happy to extend my stay at the club that's in my heart.

"I want to thank Olympiacos for embracing me and for believing in me, even during the rough patches of my career."

Mitroglou has scored 14 goals in ten Greek Super League games this season, while he also helped fire Greece to next summer's World Cup.

The striker will now be bidding to shoot down Manchester United in the Champions League Round of 16.
