Napoli are attempting a €13m offer for Lyon's Maxime Gonalons despite the midfielder's insistence on staying in France.

According to Sky Italia, Napoli will try to tempt Gonalons into a switch to the Serie A and it is believed that discussions are under way.

Gonalons' agent had previously indicated he was speaking with Napoli about a move though it is not clear if Lyon will play ball.

Though there is no agreement between the two clubs yet, it is understood that Lyon could see him leave if Gonalons' conditions are met with.

Club president Jean-Michel Aulas had insisted in October he would not let high-profile targets such as Gonalons leave despite a poor financial state.

Napoli manager Rafael Benitez, however, may have different ideas, having tried signing Gonalons during his time as Liverpool manager.

Gonalons became a hot topic for Arsenal this summer though he has since indicated his desire to complete 2013/14 with Lyon.

"I think I'll end the season at Lyon", Gonalons said in November. "At the moment I hear a lot about some clubs. There are several rumours. I try to ignore them.

"Above all I want to have a great season and take Lyon as far as possible. As for my future, we'll see at the end of the season."
