Montpellier coach Rolland Courbis would like to take Hatem Ben Arfa on loan from Newcastle until the end of the season, especially if the Magpies deprive him of Remy Cabella.

Newcastle are firm fans of Cabella and have been linked with raiding the Stade de la Mosson to sign him during this month's transfer window.

Courbis is willing to accept Cabella's departure, but only if he is allowed to add two to three players to his squad to cover for the playmaker's absence.

And according to Mercato 365, Ben Arfa is firmly on the Montpellier coach's wanted list.

The winger-cum-forward has found himself consistently out of the Newcastle starting eleven in recent months, something Courbis knows the player would not consider to be ideal preparation in a World Cup year.

While Courbis knows Ben Arfa may be out of reach on an outright transfer basis, he is hoping Newcastle could consider a short-term loan until the end of the season.

Ben Arfa was again on the bench at the weekend as Newcastle beat West Ham 3-1 in the Premier League; the Frenchman was introduced late on though, for a 12-minute cameo.
