Celtic are expected to submit a formal offer for Benfica attacking midfielder Filip Djuricic before the transfer window slams shut.

The Bhoys are long-time admirers of the 21-year-old, having first had him scouted at Dutch Eredivisie outfit Heerenveen.

He joined Benfica just last summer, costing the Portuguese giants a sum of €6m. However, coach Jorge Jesus has yet to be convinced of the merits of playing Djuricic in his preferred position, as a number 10.

Now Benfica are set to be offered the chance to sell the Serbia international as Celtic, according to Portuguese daily A Bola, are poised over a bid.

It is thought that the Scottish champions will offer around €7.3m for Djuricic, which would hand Benfica a slight profit.

It remains to be seen how Djuricic will react to a proposal to move to Scotland, but the starlet has already seen international team-mate Nemanja Matic exit Lisbon this month.

Djuricic had warned Benfica against selling the midfielder.
