Sampdoria have ended any possibility of Julio Cesar moving to the club, despite the Brazilian's pedigree and desperation to play.

Cesar was understood to have been proposed to Sampdoria, according to Sportmediaset, given his Queens Park Rangers game time is virtually non-existent.

However, that move is now ruled out with Sampdoria keeping faith in Cesar's compatriot Angelo Da Costa.

Cesar has played just one game this season – an FA Cup defeat to Everton – whilst being linked with Arsenal and Cagliari as well.

QPR boss Harry Redknapp has repeatedly stressed his amazement at Cesar not receiving any concrete offers.

Former Inter Milan man Cesar is gunning for a World Cup squad berth, and had previously indicated his interest in joining Cagliari.

"I'd love to [move to Cagliari], but I have honestly not come across any offers at the moment", he said last week.

"I still do not know what I will do in the second half of the season. For now, all I can think of doing is training."
