Cagliari sporting director Nicola Salerno is moving increasingly towards taking up a role at Leeds United.

Leeds owner Massimo Cellino, who also owns Cagliari, has agreed a deal to sell the Italian club to former Inter board member Tommaso Giulini. Cellino had been poised to pocket more than €80m for the club, but the American investors he was ready to sell Cagliari to lost his faith, due to a delay in completing the deal.

Now Cellino is set to sell the Serie A club for €40m, €40m less than he would have pocketed from the American deal.

Cellino may not be the only departure from Cagliari's boardroom though, as Salerno is edging closer to following him to Leeds.

Salerno recently admitted that it is possible he could take up a role at Elland Road and according to Sky Italia, the likelihood is growing by the day.

The sporting director enjoys a good relationship with Cellino, who appreciates his deal-making abilities.

A potential stumbling block to a Leeds move could come in the form of a tempting offer from Palermo. The winners of Serie B this season, the club's president has been linked with moving to offer Salerno a new home this summer.
