West Ham co-chairman David Gold has revealed the Hammers are close to sealing a season-long loan signing, amid speculation Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson is set to arrive at the club.

Jenkinson is now surplus to requirements at the Emirates Stadium following Arsenal's signing of Mathieu Debuchy and Calum Chambers, and boss Arsene Wenger is looking to send the England Under-21 star on loan.

West Ham are at the front of the queue and Gold is confident the Hammers have a new signing all but through the door.

Gold wrote on his Twitter account: "Closing in on a new one year loan signing."

It is not clear whether West Ham will have a purchase option in the agreement, however the arrival will further boost boss Sam Allardyce's options.
