Arsenal legend Alan Smith has claimed that his old club have completed the signing of Danny Welbeck from Manchester United, despite claims the deal is off.

Welbeck has been strongly linked with joining the Gunners and it had appeared the deal was going ahead, with the England international bolstering Arsene Wenger's attacking options after Olivier Giroud was ruled out through injury until the new year.

Then though the move appeared to be off, amid speculation Arsenal would not meet Manchester United's asking price for Welbeck, and a warning from the player's agent himself, who said the asking price for the striker is £3m on loan or £18m outright, and other clubs would pay the price.

"There are two clubs who will meet the fee, the other want him on loan", he said.

But Smith says that once the news that the deal was off broke, he was told otherwise.

"After it was supposed to be off I got a text telling me it was done and he's signed", the former Arsenal man said on Sky Sports News.

All eyes are now on both Arsenal and Manchester United to confirm or deny whether a deal is set to go ahead which would take Welbeck to the Emirates Stadium.
