Heerenveen starlet Daley Sinkgraven has dealt a blow to Manchester United's hopes of snapping him up by admitting it is too soon to consider a move away from the Netherlands.

Sinkgraven has been strongly linked with Manchester United, though the Red Devils have competition from two of the Eredivisie's biggest clubs in Ajax and PSV Eindhoven.

Financially Manchester United would be able to offer Sinkgraven a deal the two Dutch sides could not match. But the player himself has now set his sights on Ajax as his next best move, regardless of whether Louis van Gaal's men come calling.

The attacking midfielder told Dutch TV programme Bynt: "I see it as a compliment that such big clubs are interested.

"I would first prefer to play at the top of the Netherlands.

"I think it's too soon to go to a foreign country", Sinkgraven continued.

"Ajax would be a nice step."

Former Heerenveen coach Gertjan Verbeek advised Sinkgraven against Manchester United earlier this week, arguing the 19-year-old is not physically ready.

Verbeek explained: "You can see that physically he is still coming up short.

"He is a boy who has come from the youth ranks to the first team and needs to be replaced at the end of the match because of cramp.

"When that's the case you're not ready to play football in the Premier League."
