Speculation that Catania are preparing to part ways with striker Edgar Cani has moved up a notch after he was left out of their matchday squad for this evening's Serie B clash against Pro Vercelli.

The powerful Albania international was not included either in the starting eleven or on the bench as transfer talk continues to swirl.

Bari, at whom Cani spent time on loan last year, recently held talks with Catania in an attempt to work out a deal, but no agreement could be reached between the two clubs.

Leeds meanwhile have offered €450,000 for the striker, short of Catania's asking price of €700,000.

It is also unclear whether a Football League imposed transfer embargo means the Whites would have to take Cani on loan until the end of the season first.

Cani has scored three goals in 15 Serie B appearances for Catania so far this term, though he has been in and out of the team and often on the bench.

The striker's contract with Catania runs until the summer of 2018.
