Leeds United will not follow up on their initial interest in free agent Jermaine Beckford, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

Beckford, a former Leeds striker, has been released by Bolton Wanderers and is a wanted man following his heroics on loan at Preston North End in League One this season.

The 31-year-old recently signed off on this season in style by scoring a hat-trick in Preston's 4-0 League One playoff final win against Swindon Town at Wembley.

Preston are hoping to keep hold of Beckford and will now have one less club to battle to do so after Leeds pulled out of the race.

While the Whites were considering a move for the striker and held initial talks with his representatives, they have now decided to look elsewhere.
