Nicolas Otamendi’s representatives have met Manchester United and Manchester City officials to hold final discussion before the two clubs place their bids for the defender with Valencia this week.

Otamendi, through his agent, has made it clear that he wants to leave Valencia this summer and is keen to engineer his exit as soon as possible.

According to Valencia-based daily Super Deporte, his representatives met Manchester United and Manchester City officials over the course of the weekend in Portugal to hold final discussion over a proposed transfer.

The Mancunian clubs have offered him contracts ranging from 3.5m to 4m per season, which is believed to be a vast improvement to what he is earning at Valencia currently.

The Mancunian clubs are expected to slap in their bids for Otamendi this week and the crucial last minute meeting was conducted to finalise the fine print of their offers.

Manchester United are believed to be the favourites to land the defender and the Argentine is reportedly ready to lower his salary demands to facilitate the move.

The English giants are unwilling to pay his full-release clause and are said to have told the player’s agent that they won’t go beyond the figure of €40m.

Valencia have maintained that Otamendi’s suitors need to pay his full release clause of €50m to prise him away from the Mestalla this summer.

He was desperate to get the deal done by 26th July, the day he is expected to report to Valencia for pre-season training.

However, the 27-year-old has accepted the fact that it might take a while longer and has claimed to have decided to work as a thorough professional until the move is sorted out.
