Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini has travelled to London to negotiate a deal to sign Joel Campbell from Arsenal.

After warming the Arsenal bench for the first half of last season, the forward joined Villarreal in January on a loan deal and made 16 appearances for the Yellow Submarine during the latter half of the campaign.

Campbell is unlikely to play regular first team football at Arsenal next season too and is believed to be keen to leave north London this summer to provide a fresh impetus to his career.

A number of clubs have already shown an interest in signing the player, including Fenerbahce, but it has been claimed that Palermo are getting serious about taking him from the Gunners this summer.

According to Sky Italia, the Palermo supremo has flown across to London to open negotiations with Arsenal for the signature of the 23-year-old Costa Rican international.

Zamparini is keen to sign the forward on a loan deal this summer and is hoping to reach an agreement with Arsenal soon to take Campbell to Sicily ahead of the new season.

However, it is unclear whether Palermo are keen to have the option of signing Campbell on a permanent deal later.

The Costa Rican only has a year left on his contract with the Gunners and it remains to be seen whether the club decide to part with the forward this summer.
