FC Nantes president Waldemar Kita has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur linked Jordan Veretout will join Aston Villa this summer.

The 22-year-old defensive midfielder has been linked with a move to the Premier League, with Tottenham claimed to be his one of his suitors.

However, Aston Villa have been cranking up the presser on Nantes for Veretout over the last few day and the club president has conceded that the player is close to joining the Midlands club.

Kita revealed that the Frenchman will sign for the Villans today after passing a medical at Villa Park.

However, he also stressed that he was not keen to lose the player and would have preferred if Veretout had decided to stay at the club for next season.

“Yes, Veretout is passing his medical and he will surely sign for Aston Villa tomorrow [today]”, Kita told RMC Sport.

“While building a team, we did not want to part with players with whom we have shared good and bad times. At 22, I would have preferred him to stay put and provide bit more service to FC Nantes.”

However, he also added that Nantes do not have the financial power to compete with a Premier League club and the player is expected to earn lot more money in England than he was getting in France.

“The boy is 22, is an Under-20 world champion and gave us good service but we must understand in France we have a delicate financial status.

“In England he will earn five or six times because of less taxes and more TV rights.”

Nantes are expected to receive a transfer fee of €10m from Veretout’s sale and the midfielder is set to become Villa’s fourth signing from a Ligue 1 side this summer after Jordan Amavi, Jordan Ayew and Idrissa Gueye.
