Mexico international striker Raul Jimenez is waiting for the word to travel to England to link up with West Ham.

The son of Hammers co-chairman David Sullivan revealed yesterday that the Premier League club have an agreement in place to sign another player, for whom they will need a work permit.

That player is Atletico Madrid striker Jimenez who, according to Spanish daily AS, is now waiting for permission to complete his move to Upton Park.

Jimenez fails in a key criteria when it comes to qualifying for a work permit in that he has not played in 75 per cent of Mexico's matches over the last two years.

But West Ham are confident that the Football Association will deem the striker an "exceptional talent" and grant him a work permit.

West Ham have suffered a blow to their striking options with the news that Enner Valencia is sidelined until at least October, something which makes signing Jimenez even more important for the Hammers.

Rayo Vallecano had been hopeful of keeping Jimenez in Spain, but they have now dropped out of the race after deeming the striker too expensive for their budget.
