Juventus have failed with a bid for in-demand Monaco defender Aymen Abdennour, as the race for the centre-back's signature picks up pace.

Abdennour's solid performances for Monaco last season have seen him linked with a whole host of clubs, including Liverpool, Newcastle, Barcelona, AC Milan, West Ham, Atletico Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur.

Monaco are sticking to a €25m asking price for Abdennour and according to French magazine Le 10 Sport, Juventus are the latest club to fall foul of their stance.

Last season's Champions League finalists sent an offer to Monaco, but it fell short of the €25m figure and was swiftly rejected.

Abdennour was a key man for Monaco last season and formed part of one of Europe's most tight defences.

The principality outfit surprised by reaching the quarter-final of the Champions League and Abdennour's agent has already opened the lid on sides wanting his client.

He said in May: "Given the season he just had, Aymen is generating interest from all corners of the world.

"We have received calls from clubs and sporting directors but at the moment there is no deal.

"Clubs such as Valencia, Newcastle, Tottenham, Inter and Wolfsburg have called.

"We have received concrete offers from these parties and they are really interested in Aymen."
