Ex-Crystal Palace and QPR manager Iain Dowie feels that Leeds United could be dark horses to go on a run in the Championship this season.

Leeds are already on to their second boss of the campaign as former Rotherham United manager Steve Evans replaced Uwe Rosler in October.

Evans has set about putting his stamp on the Leeds side, relaxing the rules surrounding training and changing the formation to play with two strikers.

The Yorkshire giants have won their last two games in succession and Dowie, who knows the division, thinks if Evans can make Leeds a little more defensively solid then they could be dark horses in the Championship this term.

"They've got goals in the team, if they can just be defensively a little bit stronger then they could be a dark horse to have a real good run", Dowie said on Sky Sports News HQ.

"I'm sure Steve is hoping that."

Evans, speaking on the same programme, detailed a number of changes he has made at Leeds and believes the fact they have yielded wins allows him to make the case for his alterations being the right calls.

"Managers have different opinions, but we've probably relaxed things a little bit more around the training ground", the Scot explained.

"We've changed the shape of the team and of course we may go and change it again.

"Leeds for every game until we went in had played with one striker and only playing with two strikers when they were chasing a game, so we've changed that.

"And we've changed personnel a little bit; we've brought the likes of Alex Mowatt into the team, who wasn't getting much game time, and one or two others – but that just becomes opinions really.

"We're fortunate that we've won a couple of matches that has allowed us to say that's been justified", he added.

Leeds currently sit 15th in the Championship standings with 19 points from their 16 games so far.

Victory over Rotherham at the weekend could potentially solidify the Whites further in mid-table and confirm the start of real momentum being generated under Evans at Elland Road.
