Pep Guardiola feels Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen, who has been consistently linked with Liverpool, is perfect for Manchester City, according to Spanish daily Marca.

The Spaniard will leave Bayern Munich and take charge of the Mancunian side this summer, and is said to have discussed his needs for the transfer window with Manchester City's officials.

And it has been suggested that Guardiola has asked Manchester City to snare Ter Stegen, who has also been linked with a move to Liverpool in recent months, away from his former side Barcelona, as he looks to build a team at the Etihad to his own liking before the start of the new season.

While the German remains an important part of Barcelona’s future, the 23-year-old has cut a frustrated figure at the Camp Nou in recent months as Claudio Bravo remains the club’s preferred choice for league games, and he only gets his opportunities in cup competitions.

Ter Stegen has hinted that he is tired of hearing that he is Barcelona’s future number one and there have been suggestions that he might consider leaving the club if he doesn’t receive any assurances from the Catalan giants for next season.

However, Barcelona are expected to resist any offers for the young goalkeeper as he remains valuable for the club, and are hoping to scare off any of his suitors by demanding his release clause, which is said to be €80m.

It also remains to be seen whether Ter Stegen chooses to move to the Etihad as he would have to fight with England number Joe Hart for a place in the starting eleven.
