Newcastle United midfielder Moussa Sissoko admits that he is flattered by Arsenal’s apparent interest in him and has indicated that he wants to leave the Magpies this summer.

Sissoko has been one of the top stars for Newcastle since he joined the club from Toulouse in January 2013, but he could do very little to stop the Magpies from suffering relegation from the Premier League last season.

The midfielder is one of the many players who have been linked with a move away from Newcastle this summer and there have been suggestions that Arsenal are keen to snap him up this time around.

Sissoko admits that interest from a club of Arsenal’s stature is proof of his quality and indicated that he would like to leave Newcastle this summer as he wants to continue to play at the top level for both club and country.

When asked about Arsenal’s interest, the midfielder told Foot Mercato: “It is very flattering.

“Arsenal are one of the best European clubs; it is proof of my quality that they are following me.

“I hope that I get the chance to play for this club or another club of their stature.

"It would be difficult for me to play in the Championship. I have to keep on developing. I have the ambition to play for one of Europe's finest and keep playing for the national team.”

Sissoko still has more than three years left on his contract with Newcastle but it seems the club could find it hard to convince him to stay beyond the summer.
