Liverpool are providing competition to Napoli for the signature of FC Porto midfielder Hector Herrera, according to Sky Italia.

Napoli have been keepings tabs on the midfielder’s situation for months and are keen to close out a deal for his signature sooner rather than later as they are aware that there are other clubs who are keen to sign him.

Club sporting director Cristiano Guintoli is set to meet emissaries who could broker a deal for the midfielder in Milan soon, but it has been claimed, Liverpool are also in the market for Herrera.

Jurgen Klopp remains keen to add more quality to his Liverpool midfield in the summer and it has been suggested that the Mexican midfielder is one of the names on his shortlist of targets.

Herrera is currently playing in the Copa America for Mexico and scored a goal in their 3-1 win over Uruguay earlier this week to mark his quality out

Napoli are aware that a good Copa America might increase his price in the market and are desperate to reach an agreement with Porto soon for the midfielder’s signature.

However, Porto could look to stretch the negotiations and allow more clubs such as Liverpool to join the chase for Herrera, who has started the Copa America on a positive note.
