Manchester United have blown RB Leipzig out of the transfer chase for FC Basel forward Breel Embolo with their contract offer.

The 19-year-old forward, who has also been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur this summer, was seemingly on his way to newly promoted Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig this summer, until Manchester United intervened.

Manchester United are reportedly in talks with FC Basel for the signature of the Switzerland international and it has been claimed that their contract offer for the player blew Leipzig out of the chase.

Leipzig were prepared to offer a transfer fee of around €20m to Basel and were ready with a contract offer of worth €3m per season, but Manchester United barged into the negotiations with a better proposal.

According to local daily the Leipziger Volkszeitung, Embolo is expected to earn €5m to €6m per season if he moves to Old Trafford this summer and Leipzig are no longer pursuing his signature.

It now remains to be seen whether Tottenham firm up their interest to rival Jose Mourinho for the signature of the highly rated Switzerland international.

Despite his tender years, the 19-year-old has already scored 31 times in 90 senior appearances for FC Basel and scored ten goals in the Swiss top tier last season.

Embolo is also part of Switzerland’s squad for the European Championship and already has nine international caps to his name.
