Leeds United retain an interest in Sunderland midfielder Liam Bridcutt, but will face opposition for his signature.

The Whites snapped up Bridcutt on loan from the Black Cats last season and he established himself as a fixture of the side at Elland Road.

Bridcutt has since returned to Sunderland, but is expected to move on this summer as the Black Cats look to offload him.

Leeds are interested in re-signing Bridcutt, this time on a permanent deal, but have been hit with a blow as Sunderland want a fee for the player; the Yorkshire giants were hoping the Premier League club would allow Bridcutt to depart on a free transfer.

The former Chelsea man is attracting interest from elsewhere though and Leeds face competition for his signature, according to BBC Radio Leeds.

Bridcutt did have several options last season as he looked to leave Sunderland in search of regular football, but it was former Leeds head coach Steve Evans who was able to tempt the midfielder to Elland Road.

The midfielder has only one year to run on his contract with Sunderland.
