Southampton could earn £36m from the sale of Sadio Mane to Liverpool.

It emerged last night that Liverpool have agreed a fee with the Saints for the Senegal international winger, though it was claimed the total amount was £30m.

Mane is set for a medical with Liverpool later today and is expected to quickly put pen to paper on a deal with Jurgen Klopp's side.

And according to BBC Radio Solent, the fee which Liverpool have agreed to pay Southampton is an initial £34m, rising to £36m.

If the £36m figure was hit, Mane would cost Liverpool more than the £35m paid to sign Andy Carroll from Newcastle United in 2011, while even at £34m he will be a more expensive acquisition than Christian Benteke, £32.5m, last summer.

The Reds are expected to try to recoup a large portion of their outlay by selling Benteke.

The Belgium international has not won over Klopp, who took over at Liverpool in October, and is likely to be on his way.

Southampton signed Mane from Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg in 2011 for just under £12m.
