Former Chelsea goalkeeper Marco Amelia could recover from the disappointment of missing out on a move to Sunderland by joining Nottingham Forest.

Sunderland were searching for a custodian and sent out for Amelia, who arrived at the Stadium of Light looking to impress Black Cats boss David Moyes.

But the Black Cats have completed the signing of Mika from Portuguese outfit Boavista, after FIFA allowed the deal to go through. Boavista had been unable to ratify the signing before the window closed due to technical issues.

Now Amelia will have to look elsewhere, but he may not have far to go, according to Italian daily Tuttosport.

Indeed, the former AC Milan goalkeeper could end up at Championship side Nottingham Forest.

Forest are actively scouring the free agent market and yesterday added Denmark striker Nicklas Bendtner to the ranks.

Amelia is keen to continue in English football following his release from Chelsea at the end of last season and is weighing up his options after a move to Sunderland was taken off the table.

The 34-year-old would bring considerable experience to the City Ground if he does sign for Forest.
