French giants Lyon are closing in on the signature of former Tottenham Hotspur striker Emmanuel Adebayor.

The Togo hitman has been a free agent since leaving Crystal Palace at the end of last season and as such is able to move outside the transfer window system.

Adebayor was recently linked with a sensational return to White Hart Lane, with Spurs claimed to be ready to offer the 32-year-old a pay-as-you-play deal.

But it appears that the veteran striker is poised to return to France's Ligue 1, where he has previously turned out for Metz and Monaco.

According to French sports daily L'Equipe, Adebayor is travelling to Lyon by plane this evening.

It is suggested Les Gones are close to snapping him up as they look to increase their attacking options.

Adebayor must still thrash out the final details of a move to Lyon, as he seeks to fix himself up with a club now the season is in full swing.

Lyon were in action this evening in the Champions League and beat Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb 3-0 at home.
