Henri Saivet is not cutting short his loan stint at Saint-Etienne early to return to Newcastle United, it has been claimed.

The 26-year-old is on a season-long loan deal at the French Ligue 1 side, however they have made no secret of their dissapointment with his performances.

Saivet has scored just once in Ligue 1 and his performances have been criticised, something which led the club's co-chairman to recently admit they are being forced back into the transfer market to make further additions.

There appears little prospect of Saint-Etienne wanting to keep Saivet on a permanent basis at the end of the loan.

But according to the Chronicle, Saivet is not in line for an early return to St. James' Park.

The midfielder, who joined Newcastle from Bordeaux, is under contract at St. James' Park until the summer of 2021, but it remains to be seen whether he still features in Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez's thinking.

Saivet was reported to have cost the Magpies a fee of £5m when he joined from Bordeaux, the club at which he started his career.
