Las Palmas president Miguel Angel Ramirez says that his club have been chasing West Ham United in order to tie up the signing of Jonathan Calleri.

The Spanish side had been tipped to be closing in on the signature of Calleri, but the striker came off the bench and scored in West Ham's 3-1 win away at Middlesbrough on Saturday.

Ramirez is still hopeful of snapping up the Argentine, but revealed he is waiting for West Ham to sign off on the move, something they have not yet done.

The Las Palmas president told Spanish daily Marca: "We expected a response from West Ham to make Calleri official.

"We have asked for a few days", he added.

Calleri joined West Ham in the summer, but has found his chances at the London Stadium limited, with Saturday's outing against Middlesbrough just his seventh league appearance of the season.

West Ham have already allowed a striker to leave this month in the shape of Simone Zaza and it remains to be seen whether they will sign off on Calleri's departure before securing a replacement.

Las Palmas currently sit eleventh in La Liga.
