Max Meyer has put his Premier League suitors on alert by rejecting the offer of a new contract from Bundesliga giants Schalke.

The attacking midfielder has been linked with both Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, who are sure to note the development regarding the 21-year-old.

Meyer's current deal with Schalke runs out in 2018 and, according to Sky Deutschland, he has rejected a proposal to extend his contract.

Schalke are now in a vulnerable position as Meyer could depart next summer, when he is out of contract.

The Bundesliga club may now listen to bids for the talent, who turned out 27 times for Schalke in the Bundesliga this season, providing three assists for his team-mates.

In April, Meyer admitted it was 50-50 whether he would put pen to paper on a new contract at Schalke.

However, he did insist that even if he chose not to sign, it did not necessarily mean he was set to quit Schalke this summer.

All eyes will now be on the Ruhr giants and how they choose to deal with the situation as Meyer speeds towards his last 12 months under contract at the club.
