Sheffield Wednesday have failed with a bid for Cardiff City skipper Sean Morrison, according to Sky Sports News HQ.

The Owls are looking to bolster their squad over the summer and have zeroed in on Morrison – but the Bluebirds are not willing to play ball.

Sheffield Wednesday offered their fellow Championship club a fee of £3m to sign the centre-back.

However, Cardiff have wasted little time in rejecting Wednesday's proposal for Morrison.

Morrison, 26, has been at Cardiff since a 2014 switch to the club from Reading and has established himself as a key man at the Cardiff City Stadium.

It remains to be seen whether the Owls will return with an improved offer as they look to tempt Morrison to Hillsborough.

Wednesday missed out on winning promotion to the Premier League this season after falling at the semi-final hurdle in the playoffs, going down on penalties to David Wagner's Huddersfield Town side.
