Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce believes that his side are set up nicely for the game against Leeds United on Friday night after their win against Cardiff City.

The Villans are on course to mount a late push to try and finish in the Championship's top two, with the playoffs waiting if Bruce's men fall short.

Now as they prepare for their next league game against the Whites at Villa Park on Friday, Bruce insists that the preparation for the big game have been perfect after the win against Cardiff on Tuesday.

The Villans lost at the weekend against Norwich City 3-1 on Saturday, with the manager insisting that there was a strong need for a response, which eventually happened.

"We were disappointed at Norwich. And we needed a response", the manager said at a press conference.

"We knew what to expect mentally and physically from a tough Cardiff team.

"It sets us up nicely for Leeds. Can we now go and take advantage?

"The games are coming thick and fast."

Bruce also took time to provide an update on the squad ahead of the match, insisting that both John Terry and Axel Tuanzebe will be unavailable, though the situation with Birkir Bjarnason still uncertain.

"I don't think John will make the game. It's come a little bit early for him.

"Birkir, we're going to see. He had a back spasm on Tuesday night that he picked up in the warm-up."

On Tuanzebe, Bruce added: "I don't think he'll make it either. He did his ankle in the challenge.

"It's a shame for him because he's not had much luck since he's arrived.

"Hopefully we can get him back to good fitness levels again and see him back in a few weeks."
