Former Rangers star Lee McCulloch feels the Gers showed their squad depth in their emphatic 7-1 win against Motherwell on Sunday in the Scottish Premiership.

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard gave starts to Eros Grezda and Glenn Middleton and the two managed to score in the second half as the hosts ran riot against Motherwell.

Gerrard’s side have a busy fixture list after the international break as they will play 10 games in a little over 30 days before the big Old Firm derby against arch-rivals Celtic.

McCulloch insisted that Rangers are in the title mix and explained the squad depth will come in handy during the busy period after the international break.

“The fact that these guys [Grezda and Middleton] can come into the line-up and make such impressive contributions bodes well for what will be a hectic period leading up to Christmas, with eight Premiership matches and two Europa League matches to come before Celtic visit Ibrox on December 29th", McCulloch wrote in his column for the Evening Times.

“Make no mistake, Rangers are right in that mix.

“Points will be dropped by all of the teams up there as the Celtic draw at Livingston on Sunday showed, and it may well be that whoever can best weather this heavy fixture schedule over the next seven or eight weeks will be the ones to go on and take an important advantage into the second half of the season."

With the win, Rangers closed the gap on Hearts, who occupy second in the Scottish Premiership table and Gerrard’s side can move above the Jambos if they can win their game in hand.

The 7-1 win also saw Rangers match Celtic’s goal difference in the league table.
