Young Dutch hotshot Luuk de Jong is on the verge of moving to Borussia Monchengladbach according to the Rheinische Post.

De Jong underwent medical tests yesterday and is expected to be presented to the press either today or tomorrow, pending the final agreement of a transfer fee with FC Twente.

Gladbach have been negotiating hard with Twente despite snatching the 21-year-old from the Tukkers looking exceedingly difficult.

De Jong was targeted by English giants Newcastle United earlier this summer; the Magpies even sent a delegation to Enschede for talks with Twente.

However, after having an offer of €14M rejected and Twente slapping a €20M asking price on the goal-getter, Newcastle cooled their interest, though Gladbach continued talking.

Now it seems that the Bundesliga outfit are extremely close to thrashing out an agreement with Steve McClaren’s men – the fee should be less than the €20M which Twente had stated would be needed to buy De Jong.

The young Dutchman has been keen on a switch to Borussia-Park and will aim to help Gladbach negotiate the playoff round of the Champions League to reach the group stage proper.

For Gladbach the signing is a coup, with De Jong rated as one of the most exciting talents in Dutch football.
